Qualified institutional buyers filled their portion in the first ten minutes and had bid for about twice their quota within half an hour. The Reliance Industries unit is selling up to 27 crore new shares at ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 each, in lots of 12 shares. There is no sale by existing shareholders. At the top of the band the company is valued at about $108 billion, and the offer would overtake Hyundai Motor India’s ₹27,870 crore issue of 2024 as the country’s biggest.

Demand had been signalled on Monday, when the company allotted about ₹8,110 crore of shares to 212 anchor investors at ₹1,119 after receiving bids worth more than ₹2.5 lakh crore.

Jio serves 533.3 million customers. Managing director Akash Ambani has pitched the company as more than a telecom operator. “There is no either-or at Jio: the network is our technology,” he said, adding, “Digital services, AI and cloud are what we are layering on top of it now.”

The money flowing into the issue also lifted the rupee in early trade. Bidding closes on Friday, 23 October.
