AI is not a ghost or demon, KTR tells youth as Random Trees opens Hyderabad base
The BRS working president and former Telangana IT minister said AI would create jobs rather than take them, and asked governments to stay out of companies' way.

Key points
- K T Rama Rao inaugurated Random Trees' Indian headquarters in Hyderabad, which opens with 400 employees.
- He said AI will not take away jobs and young people should be given confidence, not fear.
- He called for Hyderabad to be developed into a global AI hub.
Artificial intelligence should not be feared, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K T Rama Rao said on Saturday, as he opened the Indian headquarters of Random Trees in Hyderabad.
“It is not right to see AI as a ghost or demon,” said Rama Rao, widely known as KTR, a former IT minister of Telangana. “Instead of instilling fear, we must build confidence among the youth.” The company is starting its Indian operations with 400 employees.
KTR argued that the technology would add work rather than remove it. “AI will not take away jobs; we need to embrace new employment opportunities,” he said, pointing to what he called revolutionary changes in agriculture, medicine and education. “AI creates many new opportunities; we need to grasp them.”
A pitch for Hyderabad
The former minister used the event to make the case for his city. “The IT progress achieved over the past decade must be taken further forward,” he said. “Hyderabad should be developed into a global AI hub.”
He said governments should encourage investment “rather than creating hurdles”, and set out a narrow role for the state. “Providing reliable electricity, water, and good roads is enough,” he said, adding that governments should “refrain from interfering” in the operations of existing companies.
“Large-scale employment for youth is possible only through the expansion of the private sector,” KTR said. He said workers would have to adapt to changes in the IT sector. “The future belongs to skilling, upskilling, and reskilling; everyone should move in that direction.”
