Key points

  1. Mumbai Indians signed Tara Norris from UP Warriorz in their first WPL trade.
  2. Norris took 5 for 29 for Delhi Capitals in 2023, the first five-wicket haul in the league.
  3. The WPL 2027 auction is on 28 October at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi.

Mumbai Indians have completed their first trade in the Women’s Premier League, signing USA left-arm seamer Tara Norris from UP Warriorz. She moves at her fee of ₹10 lakh, two weeks before the auction for the 2027 season.

Norris has a place in the league’s short history. Playing for Delhi Capitals in the first season in 2023, she took 5 for 29 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Brabourne Stadium, the first five-wicket haul in the WPL, with Ellyse Perry, Heather Knight and Richa Ghosh among her wickets. She was also the first player from an Associate nation picked at the inaugural auction.

UP Warriorz signed her later but she pulled out to play for the USA at the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier. She has also played six matches for MI London in the Women’s Hundred, taking four wickets.

Announcing the deal, Mumbai Indians said Norris “adds depth and versatility” to their bowling attack.

Auction ahead

The WPL 2027 auction will be held at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi on 28 October. The five franchises retained 63 players, 23 of them from overseas, before the deadline on 28 September, leaving 27 places to fill, seven of them for overseas players.

UP Warriorz kept 11 players, including captain Meg Lanning, and released Deandra Dottin, Chloe Tryon and Amy Jones among others. The season runs from 14 January to 7 February.
