Key points
- Real Madrid were 3-1 down with seven minutes left at the Stadio Olimpico and won 4-3.
- All three late goals came from Arda Güler corners.
- Paris Saint-Germain won 4-2 at Manchester City despite two goals from Erling Haaland.
Real Madrid scored three times in the last seven minutes to beat Roma 4-3 at the Stadio Olimpico in the Champions League on Wednesday night, with every one of the late goals coming from an Arda Güler corner.
Roma looked to have the game won. Marten de Roon’s long-range shot, deflected in off Donyell Malen, put them ahead in the 20th minute, and Kylian Mbappé equalised five minutes later with a strike that took a touch off Gianluca Mancini. Malen then scored twice in seven minutes after half-time, first on the counter and then from Matías Soulé’s pass, for a 3-1 lead.
Madrid’s comeback began in the 83rd minute. Endrick headed Güler’s corner goalwards and César Palacios Espí scored from the rebound. Two minutes later Endrick met another Güler corner with his head for 3-3. With a minute of normal time left, Antonio Rüdiger turned in a third corner with an acrobatic finish.
Holders win in Manchester
Paris Saint-Germain, the European champions, beat Manchester City 4-2 in Manchester. PSG scored twice early, Vitinha added a third in the 32nd minute, and Akliouche made it four midway through the second half.
Erling Haaland’s two second-half goals gave City some consolation and a club record. They took him past Sergio Agüero’s 36 Champions League goals for City, making him the club’s all-time top scorer in the competition.
The defeat came days after City’s 3-0 win at Anfield in the Premier League.
