Cristiano Ronaldo added another number to his remarkable tally on Friday, heading the 982nd goal of his career as Al-Nassr beat Al-Faisaly 3-1 at Al Majma’a Sport City to move level on points at the top of the Saudi Pro League.
The visitors started fast. Abdullah Al-Hamdan struck from the edge of the area into the bottom corner after four minutes, and four minutes into the second half Ronaldo rose to meet a free-kick from Joao Felix and head in the second.
Al-Faisaly got back into it in the 66th minute, when substitute Theo Bongonda headed in from close range. Ronaldo had a second goal of his own ruled out for offside by VAR, but he still had a hand in the last goal. In the 79th minute he dinked a pass to Al-Hamdan, who chested it into the path of Angelo, who fired home.
The home side created the better chances by one measure, with an expected goals figure of 1.28 to Al-Nassr’s 0.62, but managed only two shots on target to Al-Nassr’s five.
Level at the top
The win, under coach Ange Postecoglou, put Al-Nassr on 25 points, level with Al-Qadisiyah, who were due to face Al-Hilal later on Friday. Al-Hilal went into the weekend second on 24 points.
