Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel led the Ravana Dahan in Ahmedabad on Tuesday night, as giant effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhakarna went up in flames at the close of the Vijayadashami Mahotsav 2026 organised by the Shanti Seva Charitable Trust.

The evening began with a dayro, a traditional Gujarati folk performance, by the team of folk artist Sairam Dave. The three effigies were set alight after the performance before a large gathering.

Minister of State for Urban Development Darshana Vaghela, Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot and Members of Parliament Hasmukh Patel and Dinesh Makwana attended, along with local legislators, saints and spiritual leaders, political representatives and office-bearers of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. Sandeep Barot, who heads the trust, hosted the event.

Earlier on Vijayadashami, the Chief Minister performed the traditional Shastra Puja, the worship of weapons that marks the festival.

Ravana Dahan was held across the country on Tuesday evening to mark the victory of good over evil, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending a Ramlila in Delhi.
