About 2.7 lakh students in Kashmir and the winter zone of Jammu will sit their annual board exams from Monday, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education said, with papers spread over 2,402 centres.

“In total, we have 2,70,000 students enrolled for exams in all three classes,” JKBOSE chairman Ghulam Hassan Sheikh told reporters in Srinagar on Friday.

The Class 10 exams begin on Monday, 19 October. Class 12 starts on 21 October and Class 11 on 29 October. The exams cover the ten districts of the Kashmir division and six districts in the winter zone areas of the Jammu division.

Police at the centres

Superintendents, deputy superintendents and supervisors have been drawn from the School Education Department. Chief Education Officers and General Education Officers have been given authority over the arrangements, and about 40 JKBOSE teams will be posted across the districts. Confidential material has already reached police stations. District magistrates have been asked to impose restrictions under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita around the centres, and district police chiefs to post officers to keep outsiders away.

“Safeguarding the integrity of the exam is a priority for us,” Sheikh said.

For the first time this year the board has set up a grievance monitoring cell, with two landline numbers and email addresses for complaints. Of the Class 10 papers, Sheikh said: “The papers are also normal.”
