Tripura’s urban voters for next month’s municipal elections number 6,29,903, and women among them outnumber men, the State Election Commission has announced.

The electorate covers 20 urban local bodies: the Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 municipal councils and six nagar panchayats. Of the voters, 3,21,743 are women, 3,08,115 are men and 45 are third-gender electors, giving women a lead of 13,628.

The Agartala Municipal Corporation, which covers the state capital, accounts for the largest share of voters.

The commission has said the elections will be held next month. No polling date was given with the figures.

The figures come as several states head into local body elections this autumn, from panchayat polls in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to municipal and rural polls in Andhra Pradesh, where nominations opened on Friday amid violence.
