Key points

  1. Israeli strikes killed three Palestinians in Gaza on Friday, Palestinian medical sources said.
  2. Two were killed when a strike hit an electric bicycle in Gaza City's al-Nasr neighbourhood.
  3. Israeli forces were reported to have moved the Yellow Line westward in al-Musaddar village.

Israeli strikes killed three Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Friday, Palestinian medical sources said, as Israeli troops were reported to have pushed the line that divides the territory further west in the centre of the Strip.

Two people were killed and others wounded when a strike hit an electric bicycle in the al-Nasr neighbourhood, west of Gaza City. Earlier in the day, another Palestinian was killed in a strike in al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis in the south.

In al-Musaddar, a village east of Deir al-Balah, Israeli forces were reported to have advanced in the early hours of Friday and laid yellow concrete blocks near the village cemetery, shifting the so-called Yellow Line west once again. Several families left their homes, and others living close to the new markers now find themselves nearer the line.

For Palestinians living along the line, the truce has offered little protection. The UN’s acting Middle East envoy, Ramiz Alakbarov, told the Security Council last week that for them, “the ceasefire exists in name only”. He said about 1,500 Palestinians had been killed since the truce took hold. Four more were killed in strikes on Gaza City and Khan Younis on Tuesday.

Friday’s strikes came on the same day Israel locked down the occupied West Bank after two of its soldiers were shot dead near Hebron.
