Key points

  1. A woman was killed and three people injured in Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
  2. The strike hit a metro station and a 25-storey residential building.
  3. Russia fired almost 2,700 attack drones and 66 missiles at Ukraine in the past week, Zelenskyy said.

A Russian air strike on Kyiv overnight killed a woman and injured three people, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Monday.

Writing on Telegram, Klitschko said the attack hit a metro station and damaged a 25-storey residential building, as well as non-residential buildings and a medical facility.

The strike came a day after Ukraine launched its largest drone attack on Russia since the full-scale invasion began. Russia’s defence ministry said 1,015 Ukrainian drones were brought down over 15 regions, Crimea and the Black Sea, and St Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said at least one person was killed in his city.

Russian attacks on Ukraine continued through Sunday as well. Two strikes on Zaporizhzhia killed a woman and wounded at least two other people, among them a six-year-old girl. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said strikes on residential buildings in the Volyn region killed two people and injured 12, including two children.

Zelenskyy said Russia had launched almost 2,700 attack drones, 1,700 aerial bombs and 66 missiles, most of them ballistic, at Ukraine over the past week. He said Russia had struck Ukraine’s energy, oil and gas sectors 76 times in the seven days after Trump announced an “energy ceasefire” on 11 October.

The violence comes as diplomacy falters. US President Donald Trump has accused Zelenskyy of not wanting to end the war, while Zelenskyy says Washington’s decision to waive new sanctions on Russia will only strengthen Moscow.
