Key points

  1. Google Cloud has added three OpenAI models to its Model Garden in a private preview.
  2. Customers pay through Google Cloud Marketplace, on a single bill that counts against existing cloud commitments.
  3. Google says it is now the only big cloud provider offering all three leading closed AI model families.

OpenAI’s newest models are now on sale through one of its biggest rivals. Google Cloud said on Wednesday it had added three OpenAI models, GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, to Model Garden, its catalogue of AI models for business customers.

The models began rolling out in a private preview to selected enterprise customers on Wednesday, and others can apply for access through an interest form. Developers can build with them through Google Cloud’s programming interfaces, and can connect OpenAI’s Codex coding tools to Google’s platform to run them. Google said support in Gemini for business and its Antigravity coding tool, along with zero data retention and confidential computing options, was “coming soon”.

The announcement was written by Michael Gerstenhaber, vice-president of product management for Gemini at Google Cloud. Google described Sol as offering close to Astra’s intelligence at a lower cost, but did not publish prices.

Customers buy the OpenAI models through Google Cloud Marketplace and pay on a single Google Cloud bill. The spending counts against customers’ existing Google Cloud commitments and towards its savings plans across model providers.

Google said customers’ prompts and outputs stay within their own data boundary and are not used to train models, and that the OpenAI models run on dedicated Google infrastructure with queries passed through isolated gateways.

With the addition, Google says it is the only large cloud provider to offer all three leading families of closed AI models, alongside more than 200 of its own, third-party and open models. For business customers, it means Gemini and GPT models can sit side by side on one platform and one bill. Google said more models would follow, without giving dates.
