Key points

  1. Deepti Sharma's unbeaten 106 was the first ODI hundred by an Indian woman batting at six or lower.
  2. Harmanpreet Kaur's 126 was her eighth ODI century, one more than Mithali Raj.
  3. Vaishnavi Sharma took four wickets in her second ODI.

Deepti Sharma’s unbeaten 106 against Zimbabwe in Vadodara on Sunday was the first one-day international hundred by an Indian woman batting at No. 6 or lower, on a day when India’s batters rewrote several of their own records.

The previous best from that position was Richa Ghosh’s 94. Deepti reached her century in 83 balls, the fifth fastest by an Indian woman in ODIs, and finished on 106 off 86 balls with 15 fours. It was only her second ODI hundred and her first at home.

She also took 3 for 32 as India won by 121 runs. She now has 2,877 ODI runs and 171 wickets.

Harmanpreet moves ahead of Mithali

Harmanpreet Kaur’s 126 off 121 balls was her eighth ODI hundred, taking her past the seven scored by Mithali Raj. She has 4,667 ODI runs at an average of 37.94, with 24 fifties, and four of her hundreds have come in India.

Together, Harmanpreet and Deepti added 153 for the fifth wicket, India’s highest stand for the fifth wicket or lower in women’s ODIs. The previous mark was 122 by Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar against Pakistan at the 2022 World Cup.

Earlier, Harmanpreet and Pratika Rawal had put on 124 for the third wicket after India were 19 for 2.

A first four-for for Vaishnavi

Vaishnavi Sharma, playing only her second ODI after coming in for the rested Kranti Goud, took 4 for 39. It was her first four-wicket haul in international cricket and broke Zimbabwe’s middle order.

India lead the three-match series 2-0. The final game is in Vadodara on Wednesday, 28 October.
