- Harvinder and Bhawna lost their mixed semi-final and were due to play Iran for bronze.
Harvinder Singh added an Asian Para Games title to his Paralympic gold on Friday, combining with Vijay Sundi to beat China 5-1 in the final of the men’s recurve doubles.
The Indian pair shared the first set with Yun Duo and Zhao Lixue when both sides shot 35 at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park venue. They then took the second 37-36 and closed out the match with a 38-36 third set.
It was a fine result for Vijay, who was competing alongside Harvinder for the first time at this level. Harvinder, India’s Paralympic champion, has been the face of Indian para archery and brought calm to a tight final against a strong Chinese pair.
There was less joy in the women’s final. Bhawna Choudhary and Pooja Jatyan were outclassed 0-6 by China’s Gao Zihan and Wang Xueqian, shooting 31, 30 and 29 to China’s 38, 35 and 39, and settled for silver.
Harvinder was soon back on the range for the recurve mixed team event with Bhawna, but the pair lost their semi-final 0-6 to China’s Zhao Lixue and Wang Xueqian. They were left to face Iran in the bronze medal match later in the morning.
The archery medals came early on another busy day for India in Aichi-Nagoya, where the para badminton team won gold and silver in an all-Indian final within the hour.
