Key points
- Kylian Mbappe scored twice, once from the spot, in Madrid's 4-1 win over Sevilla.
- Real Madrid are third, six points behind leaders Barcelona.
- Lazio won 3-0 at Juventus to move up to second in Serie A.
Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Real Madrid brushed aside Sevilla 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday night, a comfortable evening for a side playing without Vinicius Junior.
The Brazilian sat out the first match of a four-game suspension for pulling the hair of a Villarreal player and confronting the referee. Madrid barely missed him. Arda Guler opened the scoring on the half-hour, Mbappe added a second seven minutes later with a fine finish, and the Frenchman converted a penalty in the 63rd minute. Yan Diomande made it four in the 82nd minute, and Manu Bueno scored Sevilla’s goal.
The win lifted Madrid to third in La Liga, one point behind Atletico Madrid and six behind Barcelona, who beat Betis on Saturday for a ninth straight league win.
Lazio go second
In Turin, Lazio beat Juventus 3-0 to climb to second in Serie A. Juventus, without coach Luciano Spalletti, who was serving a one-match ban after an altercation with Cagliari coach Fabio Pisacane, stayed eighth.
AC Milan were three goals up against Atalanta by the 57th minute and then had to hang on, winning 3-2 at San Siro. Milan moved up to fourth, four points behind leaders Inter. Earlier, Como won 3-1 at Fiorentina, who are second from bottom, and Lecce won 3-0 at Udinese.
