Key points

  1. Real Madrid won 2-1 at Camp Nou, with Mbappé scoring twice.
  2. Barcelona's lead at the top of La Liga is cut to three points.
  3. In England, Bournemouth won 3-0 at Manchester United on Sunday.

Kylian Mbappé scored twice at Camp Nou on Sunday night, the second two minutes from time, as Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 and ended the leaders’ perfect start to the La Liga season.

Barcelona had won all nine league matches before the first Clásico of the season. The defeat cuts their lead over Madrid to three points.

How the Clásico turned

Barcelona had more of the ball in the first half, with 59% possession, but Madrid went ahead in the 41st minute. Yan Diomandé sent a low cross in from the left, Gerard Martín’s attempted clearance struck Mbappé, and the Frenchman turned to score.

Barcelona levelled on the hour. Pedri found Raphinha, who finished low past Andriy Lunin, deputising in goal for the ill Thibaut Courtois.

The game stayed open. Lunin saved a header from Martín after a corner, and Joan García had earlier kept out Arda Güler. With two minutes left, Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga worked the ball forward and Mbappé struck again for his 11th league goal of the season.

Both sides lost players to injury. Federico Valverde made way for Denzel Dumfries, and Barcelona’s Xavi Espart was replaced by Alejandro Balde after half an hour. Madrid were without Vinícius Júnior, who is suspended.

Bournemouth stun Manchester United

In the Premier League on Sunday, Bournemouth won 3-0 at Old Trafford. Liverpool beat Brighton 2-0, Newcastle won 2-0 at Crystal Palace, and Hull City and Brentford drew 1-1.
