Tottenham win at Chelsea after Penders own goal and Palmer red card
Chelsea's goalkeeper punched a corner into his own net and Cole Palmer was sent off before Mathys Tel sealed a 2-0 win for Roberto De Zerbi's side at Stamford Bridge.

Key points
- Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, with both goals in the last 13 minutes.
- Cole Palmer was sent off for a second yellow card soon after Chelsea fell behind.
- Spurs' second league win in a row lifted them to 12th.
Tottenham Hotspur won at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, beating Chelsea 2-0 in a London derby that turned on two Chelsea errors in the space of a few minutes.
For 76 minutes there was little between the sides. Antonin Kinsky made several saves for Spurs, among them one from Pedro Neto, who also wasted a good chance before half-time.
Then, in the 77th minute, Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders went up to punch away a Tottenham corner and sent the ball into his own net. Three minutes later Cole Palmer, already booked, lunged at Conor Gallagher and was shown a second yellow card. Mathys Tel finished the game off in the 87th minute with a low right-footed shot from outside the box.
Spurs lost James Maddison to injury early in the second half, a blow so soon after his return from a long lay-off. Even so, the result gave Roberto De Zerbi a second straight league win after Monday’s 3-1 victory over Coventry, and lifted his side to 12th.
De Zerbi said the change had begun with a frank team meeting after their game against Manchester City. “We removed the masks and spoke honestly and clearly in front of ourselves,” he said. “From that moment, I think something started to change within us.”
“I think we deserved to win,” he added.
Andrew Robertson said Spurs had been comfortable on the ball, played through Chelsea’s high press and believed they would get a result.
It was a bad night for Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea, who started the day fourth on 13 points and finished it with ten men and nothing to show.
