Key points

  1. Sturm Graz beat Marseille 1-0, leaving the French side with no points from three games.
  2. Juventus were held 2-2 by Rennes in Turin.
  3. Leverkusen won 2-0 in Crete and have not conceded in the league phase.

Marseille’s Europa League campaign went from bad to worse on Thursday evening as Sturm Graz beat them 1-0 in Austria, a third straight defeat that leaves the French club without a point after three rounds of the league phase.

Diakité scored the only goal after 13 minutes, and Marseille could not find a reply. They have scored once and conceded six in their three matches.

Juventus dropped points for the first time in the competition. Rennes came to Turin and led 2-1 at half-time after Al-Tamari cancelled out Çelik’s fifth-minute opener and Dia scored a penalty just before the break. Nick Woltemade rescued a 2-2 draw from the spot midway through the second half.

Leverkusen and Ferencváros on nine points

Bayer Leverkusen won 2-0 at OFI Crete, with Hofmann scoring twice in three minutes before half-time. They have nine points, eight goals and a clean defensive record from three games. Ferencváros also have a maximum nine after beating Torreense 4-1 in Budapest.

Sunderland scored inside two minutes in Poznań through Tutierov but were pegged back by Bengtsson’s equaliser and drew 1-1 with Lech.

NEC Nijmegen came from 2-1 down to win 4-2 at Dinamo Zagreb, with Linssen scoring twice, while Union Saint-Gilloise beat Hapoel Beer-Sheva 4-0 and AZ Alkmaar won 4-0 in Armenia against Ararat. The eight early kick-offs produced 28 goals.
