Key points

  1. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary inaugurated the CtrlS data centre in Patna on Wednesday.
  2. CtrlS had announced the project in 2024 as a 10 MW, 1,000-rack facility costing about ₹400 crore.
  3. The state's Industries Department has a ₹10,000 crore MoU with the company.

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday inaugurated a data centre built by CtrlS Datacenters in the Patliputra Industrial Area of Patna, and said it would help bring investment in information technology and artificial intelligence to the state.

Choudhary congratulated CtrlS founder Sridhar Pinnapureddy and his team at the opening. The state’s Industries Department has signed a memorandum of understanding with the company worth ₹10,000 crore.

CtrlS announced the Patna project in August 2024 as a greenfield edge data centre with a 10 MW IT load and about 1,000 racks, at an investment of about ₹400 crore. The land was acquired through the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority, close to the company’s existing Patna facility.

“We are committed to developing a robust IT ecosystem in Bihar through our future-ready datacenters,” Pinnapureddy said when the project was announced.

An edge data centre is a smaller facility built close to the people and businesses it serves, which cuts the delay in delivering online services. The 2024 announcement said the project would create jobs in the state, but gave no number.

For Choudhary, the opening is part of a wider pitch to bring technology investment to Bihar. He described the centre as a boost for IT and AI investment, and the MoU signals a larger commitment from CtrlS than the first Patna project.
