Key points

  1. Russia fired 153 drones, 92 of them jet-powered, at Ukraine overnight; 119 were shot down.
  2. Russian attacks killed 8 people and injured 51 across Ukraine over the past day.
  3. Moscow said it downed 532 Ukrainian drones over 25 regions; three people died in Bryansk and Belgorod.

A Russian drone slammed into a five-storey apartment block in the central Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia overnight, injuring six people, as Moscow and Kyiv traded heavy drone fire through the night.

Russia launched 153 Shahed-type drones, 92 of them jet-powered, along with low-cost Banderol cruise missiles, Ukraine’s Air Force said on Sunday morning. Air defences brought down 119 of the drones, including 64 jet-powered ones, but others hit 15 locations, with falling debris recorded at nine more. At least nine drones were still in Ukrainian airspace at 8 am.

In Vinnytsia, the strike damaged the building between its second and third floors, “completely destroying four apartments”, said Nataliia Zabolotna, the head of the regional administration. One of the injured was taken to hospital and cars parked outside were wrecked. The State Emergency Service said rescuers came under repeated strikes while they worked in Kharkiv and Vinnytsia regions, with three emergency workers among the injured and a fire tanker destroyed.

A day of deaths across the front

Across Ukraine, Russian attacks killed eight people and injured 51 over the past day, regional officials said. In Dnipropetrovsk region, three people died and 14 were hurt in Synelnykove district, among them an 11-year-old girl, while two women were killed in Nikopol district, Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said.

A 45-year-old man was killed in Lozova in Kharkiv region, a woman died at a farm in Sumy region, and one person was killed in Yarova in Donetsk region. In Zaporizhzhia region, Russian forces carried out 832 strikes on 52 settlements, officials said.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its drones hit a dry cargo ship heading for the Black Sea port of Chornomorsk, claiming it was carrying supplies for Ukrainian forces. It also said it struck three logistics sites in Kharkiv that it said stored “dual-use cargo” for the military.

Ukraine’s drones over Russia

Russia, for its part, said its air defences destroyed 532 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over 25 regions during the night.

In the Bryansk region, a drone hit a minibus belonging to a farm in the village of Borshchovo, killing two people and seriously injuring two, regional head Yegor Kovalchuk said. In Belgorod, one person was killed and 14 injured, the regional governor said.

Far to the east, in the Urals, a drone struck an industrial plant in Perm region and injured five workers, Governor Dmitry Makhonin said, without giving details of the damage.

Strikes despite the talk of peace

The exchange comes as US envoys press both sides on an updated peace plan and a local ceasefire around Russian-held Oleshky in Kherson region. In Kherson region itself, Russian attacks hit 43 settlements over the past day and injured two people, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said, a reminder of how far the front remains from any wider truce.
