Tata Steel puts off its September-quarter results by 11 days, to 7 November

The steelmaker's board was due to meet on Tuesday. It cited 'unavoidable circumstances' and gave no other reason, leaving metal investors to wait while rivals have already reported.

Key points

  1. Tata Steel's board meeting on results has moved from 27 October to 7 November.
  2. The company cited "unavoidable circumstances" in its filing to the exchanges.
  3. Its insider trading window stays shut until 48 hours after the results are declared.

Tata Steel has postponed the board meeting at which it was to approve its results for the July to September quarter, pushing the numbers back by 11 days to Saturday, 7 November.

The meeting had been fixed for Tuesday, 27 October, one of the busiest days of the results season. In its filing to BSE and NSE on Saturday, the company said only that the meeting had been put off because of “unavoidable circumstances.” It gave no further explanation.

When the board does meet, it will take on record the audited standalone and the unaudited consolidated results for the quarter and the half-year to 30 September 2026.

Insiders wait longer too

The delay also extends the period in which the company’s directors, senior staff and their close relatives cannot trade its shares. That trading window has been shut since 24 September and will now reopen only 48 hours after the results are sent to the exchanges.

A wait for metal investors

The postponement leaves investors without a read from one of India’s largest steelmakers at a difficult time for metal shares. The Nifty Metal index led Friday’s fall, and Tata Steel was among the biggest losers in the Nifty 50 that day.

Its rivals have already reported. JSW Steel posted a quarterly profit of ₹5,359 crore and approved new expansion plans, and Jindal Steel’s profit rose 21%. Tata Steel’s numbers will now arrive after the US Federal Reserve’s decision and the rest of this week’s crowded central bank calendar.
