Claim that ECI took down its 26 September Form 6 press note is false
The Election Commission rejected the claim and shared a link to the note on 5 October, and PIB Fact Check called it fake. LokVox has not yet opened the page itself.
The claim
The Election Commission removed its 26 September 2026 press note on Form 6 from its website after the Supreme Court said it had not approved any modification to Form 6.

What we found
The claim is false on the available record. On 5 October 2026 the Election Commission rejected claims that it had withdrawn its 26 September press note from its website and shared a link to the note to show it was still available, PTI reported. PIB Fact Check called the claim fake and shared the official ECI link to the note.
LokVox could not open the ECI website to check the page itself, so this rating rests on the Commission’s response and PIB’s check as reported by news agencies. It will be updated once the desk has confirmed the page directly. The claim is about whether a document exists online, which anyone can test by opening Press Note No. 120 on the ECI website.
The rating covers only the removal claim. It does not address the separate dispute over who approved changes to Form 6, which is before the Supreme Court.

The evidence
What the post said
The Economic Times reported that Ashutosh Ranka of the Cockroach Janta Party posted on X that the court’s observation contradicted the ECI’s 26 September statement and that the press note was later taken down. The post followed the Supreme Court’s remarks on 5 October.
The ECI says the note was never removed
PTI reported on 5 October that “the EC rejected claims that it has withdrawn the September 26 press note from its website” and “shared link of the press note to assert that the statement was still available”. In its own post on X, the Commission quoted Point 1(iii) of Press Note No. 120, dated 26 September 2026: “The declaration attached to Form 6 for SIR has been upheld by the Hon’ble Supreme Court,” Daily Jagran reported.

PIB Fact Check shared the live link
PIB Fact Check issued a fake news alert saying the ECI had not removed the note and shared the official ECI link to it, according to IANS and The Economic Times. It advised: “Do not share unverified videos or claims.”

Why this claim spread
The post came after a bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana said: “Any modification to Form 6 has not been approved by us.” The same day Rahul Gandhi accused the Chief Election Commissioner of changing Form 6, and the ECI labelled his post misleading, Daily Jagran reported. The Commission had earlier dropped the extra SIR declaration from online Form 6 in states where the revision was complete, PTI reported.
