Key points

  1. K T Rama Rao said Telangana has become 'an ATM for Rahul Gandhi' under Revanth Reddy.
  2. He said the Congress's six guarantees remain unfulfilled more than 1,000 days after it took power.
  3. On Friday he had predicted that KCR will be chief minister again.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K T Rama Rao launched a fresh attack on Rahul Gandhi on Sunday, saying the Congress government in Telangana was being used to fund the party’s national leadership.

“Telangana has become an ATM for Rahul Gandhi under Revanth Reddy’s rule,” he said. “Revanth Reddy has become Rahul Gandhi’s ATM card.”

Rama Rao, widely known as KTR, called the Congress leader one of the biggest liars in Indian politics and said he lacked the courage to set foot in Telangana. “Rahul Gandhi is turning a blind eye to the alleged corruption, loot and scams in Telangana,” he said.

He returned to the Congress’s promises from the 2023 Assembly election, saying the six guarantees it pledged to deliver within 100 days, its 13 declarations and its 420 poll promises remained unmet more than 1,000 days after it came to power. “What happened to Rahul Gandhi’s 420 promises?” he asked. The number carries a sting in Indian politics, where “420” is slang for a cheat, after the old penal code section on fraud.

KTR also accused the BJP-led Centre of failing the state, though he did not give specific cases.

On Friday, speaking to BRS workers from Amberpet at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad, he had predicted a comeback for his father, party chief K Chandrasekhar Rao. “It is certain that KCR will become the Chief Minister of Telangana again,” he said, adding that “non-Congress and non-BJP parties are going to play a key role in the country.”

The Congress had not responded to Sunday’s remarks by late night.
