This page brings together the main measures of how India’s economy is doing, using the latest official release for each. As of 11 October 2026, growth is strong but inflation is rising, and the Reserve Bank of India has started raising interest rates for the first time since 2023.

Real GDP grew 7.8% in April-June 2026. Retail inflation reached 4.82% in August, its seventh monthly rise in a row, and the RBI raised the repo rate to 5.50% on 7 October. Unemployment eased to 5.0% in August and factory output grew 8.0%.

The pressure points are oil and money. Brent crude futures were at $102.95 a barrel on 9 October, the rupee closed at 96.72 to the dollar on 9 October, and forex reserves have fallen for four weeks. The Centre had used 41.9% of its full-year deficit target by August, against 38.1% a year earlier, even as GST collections grew 14.7% in September.

How to read it

Each tile shows the latest value, the period it covers and the date it was released. The comparison is with the previous reading, or with the same period a year earlier where that is how the figure is reported; the tile says which. The small chart shows the history we could confirm. Gaps in a history mean we could not find a reliable published figure, not that the number was unchanged.

The data file also marks each indicator as verified against a primary source or not. Figures marked “not verified against primary” come from news agencies or newspapers reporting official data.

Sources

GDP, CPI, unemployment and industrial output are from MoSPI releases. The repo rate is from the RBI. The fiscal deficit is from Controller General of Accounts data as reported by UNI and PTI, and GST from figures reported by Business Today and IANS. The rupee, forex reserves and market closes are from PTI and Business Standard. Every row in the data file carries its own source link and date.
